Thanks to Seth for pointing out I Heart Zappos, the honest-to-god, real-life, over-the-top, move-you-to-tears customer story of 2007.
Have a small advertising budget? Want to create something extraordinary? Read the post and see why everyone is crazy about Zappo's. Think that post isn't some of the best word-of-mouth ever? The greatest thing about it is that it was never intended as a marketing ploy. Zappo's just has a heart, which makes it all the more potent.
Sometimes, I just fall in love with a company. Zappo's is my new crush.
You know, really, when and if we do something this special, it's for someone we know really well. Imagine the thoughtfulness to do this for a faceless customer. If this is a policy... good for the person who created it... if someone had the balls to do it coz they felt like it... either way, its a wow.
hmmmm and the power of the internet..."what are people saying about you"?

This is a really great story to show the power we sometimes have to really make a difference in someone's life when they really need to catch a break. This is why customer service matters, not because of word-of-mouth or repeat business, but because every customer is a whole person with a whole set of life triumphs and struggles going on.

There aren't that many companies out there who are willing to take care of their customers like that. Arranging with UPS to pick up the shoes was already very kind of them. The flowers that came after are truly amazing. This just shows that Zappo's is not just about shoes. They are genuinely concerned with the people who wear their shoes.
