As if you needed more proof that women are the majority consumer: today's NY Times reports 51% of Women Are Now Living Without a Spouse. (free subscription required) Factors include marrying at an older age, waiting longer to remarry, and widows who have no plans to remarry.
Sheer numbers alone are a good reason to think about how to start marketing directly to women in a language that resonates with them. The fact that Boomers are just turning 60 this year means widowhood will increase over the next 30 years, which just adds exponential power to this undeniable trend.
Do you know how to market to women? Are you aware there is no "paint by the numbers" solution? If you're curious and ready to give it a try, perhaps you should consider doing this.
I would suspect that marketing to single boomer women and younger single women would be significantly different, wouldn't they? I know that I am getting rid of "stuff" and more interested in services, creativity and travel. Since I own my own business, that also takes up a great deal of time and money. :-))
I am a boomer woman.

Michele:
Thanks for blogging about this. I think most advertisers do not know how to sell to midlife women because many of those designing the ad campaign are not midlife women! They are overlooking how we think and feel.
My focus is on helping midlife women through the challenges with dating after a long relationship ends. Midlife men have no better idea how to woo a midlife woman than how to sell to them!
Keep up your great work.
