I love this time of year, when companies come out of the woodwork waving surveys, trumpeting the announcement that their product is the Chosen One this holiday season. Today's gift-of-the-moment is flowers, according to a news release by Teleflora. According to the survey, 56% of men and 85% of women say they like to receive flowers for the holidays.
Well, du-uh! That's pretty much a no-brainer. Can you imagine, however, how the response would have taken a nose dive if the question had been, "Would flowers be your gift of choice for the holidays?"
I love flowers as much as the next gal... but given the choice between roses and this, you just gotta know which direction I'm leaning...
Surveys like Teleflora's are a waste of marketing dollars (I wonder just how much they paid Harris for this one?!) and old-fashioned when it comes to PR ideas. Here's a freebie, Teleflora... why not send flowers to military wives at select bases across the country as a gift from husbands who will be serving in Iraq or Afghanistan for the holidays?
Flowers are all about the heart, Teleflora - how about showing a little more heart and a little less pocketbook? I guarantee it will be one of the smartest marketing investments you'll ever make.
Gosh - I hate to rub it in but....
guess what Santa brought me?
I'll give you a hint...
