Wow. Wild times around here in the World According to Michele. Between travel, speaking engagements, family emergencies and deadlines, I’ve been slammed from all sides. Now back to getting my bearings. Almost afraid to say that, for fear of tempting the gods...
Mary over at Mary’s Blog has a terrific post today, pointing out the difficulties of living as a single in a “marketing for couples” world:
“... the [restaurant] deal is buy one, get one free entree. Which means, as a member of the extremely single class, I can’t just stroll up the street and check ‘em out on a whim. I’ve got to get a friend to join me. Now, I do have friends, but I’d be much more likely to try the place if it was a flat 50% off my bill. So, sorry, Bravo! Your glossy direct mail piece went right in the circular file.”
How many of you single gals feel the same way as Mary?
Beware of falling into the trap of “traditional” marketing. While buy-one-get-one-free used to work well, society is changing. It’s now a single-and-lovin’-it world... are you still stuck in the tradition of “couples only,” or are you embracing the “table for one?”
Thanks for noticing Michele! (However, I'm a tad concerned my two-headed photo will be replicated across the Web. Oh well! ;-)
I'm certainly not "couple adverse" - some of my favorite people are couples. But it would be terrific if more companies caught on to: a. Happily single people; b. Happily single women (with their own ability to buy houses, cars, and dinners.)
